No one eats like Gaston or sells treats like Gaston. Nowhere is better to rest your sore feet than Gaston’s. It’s especially good for rehydrating. Oh, what a guy, that Gaston!
Yes, the rumors are true. If you want to enjoy a delicious nibble or an ice-cold beverage when you’re in the Magic Kingdom park, there’s nowhere better to get a sweet treat than Gaston’s Tavern. It’s a great stop for a photo op and to boost your energy levels with a scrumptious sugar rush!
Although there are plenty of snack vendors around the park, Gaston’s is one of those rare spots where you can find a lot of rich story-telling in Disney’s Magic Kingdom in the Fantasyland district. It’s an especially fun place to visit if you’re on your way to Beast’s Castle, and it will help you refuel before you go on any more rides.
Gaston’s Tavern History
Since Disney announced the launch of Gaston’s Tavern at the D23 expo in 2009, it was all anyone could talk about. The quick-service restaurant was included in part of the Fantasyland renovations and expansion, and excited parkgoers couldn’t wait to find out what kind of treats they could expect from the infamous villain of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast.
After a long wait, Gaston’s Tavern was finally opened in the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World Resort in late 2012. And since opening its doors, it has quickly become a popular destination for guests to grab a quick bite and snap a photo with Gaston’s Tribute that stands outside the front of the restaurant.
That’s right! Right at the Tavern entrance is a gigantic fountain depicting Gaston himself and his trusty sidekick, LeFou. And while it may seem strange to have such a large statue paying tribute to a villain, if you take a closer look at the fountain, its history becomes much clearer.
At the foot of the fountain is a plaque that reads ‘Tribute to Gaston.’ But who could have wanted to erect such a statue? That’s easy! Gaston did, of course! If you keep reading the plaque, you’ll notice a message signed by Gaston that reads, ‘An extravagantly generous gift to the humble people of my village.’
For any Beauty and the Beast fan, this inscription seems perfectly apt for a self-important man like Gaston. But no matter how you feel about him, there’s no denying that you can take some great holiday pictures with the image of Gaston. And if you’re lucky, you may even get a photo op with Gaston himself!
The Gaston cast member can often be found hanging around his tavern. He is no doubt waiting for all his adoring fans to ask for an autograph or thank him for creating one of the best snack spots on the street!
Gaston’s Tavern theme
You don’t have to stretch your imagination to figure out the theme of Gaston’s Tavern. Of course, it’s all about him! Inspired by a French tavern or inn, the restaurant is quaint and feels like it was plucked straight out of the movie!
With an obnoxiously large portrait of Gaston on the wall and an antler chandelier, guests can agree that they would expect nothing less from the muscled macho-man. Inside, you’ll also find a good amount of indoor seating where you can take in all of Gaston’s splendor while you sip your drink.
And in true ego-maniac fashion, there’s limited outdoor seating. We can’t help but theorize that he wanted guests to spend as much time staring at his portrait as possible instead of taking in the scenery outdoors!
Gaston’s Tavern Menu
Gaston’s Tavern has a limited menu with select snacks and drinks. This quick-stop snack spot is great for grabbing something to eat without over-filling your stomach. And it’s a good thing, too! After all, who wants to go on a bunch of rides right after a heavy lunch? It’s also good for trying venue-exclusive items that you won’t find anywhere else in the park!
Warm cinnamon roll
If you’ve been to Disney’s Magic Kingdom before, you’re probably familiar with the Main Street Bakery. The Bakery also offers Starbucks cinnamon rolls that guests can’t get enough of. But how does the cinnamon roll from Main Street Bakery compare to Gaston’s?
With more icing, a bigger Cinnamon roll, and a softer, warmer center, the cinnamon roll from Gaston’s is hands down our favorite treat. While the Bakery’s cinnamon rolls are still incredibly delicious, nothing tastes quite as sweet as a true Gaston’s Tavern’s fresh cinnamon roll.
Ham, provolone, and Swiss sandwich
If you want something savory or you want to eat something more substantial, the ham sandwich is to die for. Served with french fries, you can always guarantee a tasty midday treat when you order this quick snack.
Pluto’s dome cake
This is the dessert for guests with an insatiable sweet tooth! Pluto’s dome cake has a velvety chocolate cake base and is topped with peanut butter mousse with a rich chocolate ganache center. Of course, the dome is decorated to resemble Mickey’s best friend and loyal companion, Pluto!
Drinks
Although everyone who visits Gaston’s Tavern is after Lefou’s brew, the restaurant also serves a range of other drinks. These drinks include:
- Assorted fountain sodas
- Freshly brewed Joffrey’s coffee
- Nesquick chocolate milk
- Orange juice
- Apple juice
- Water
- Hot tea
- Joffrey’s Coffee cold brew
Lefou’s brew
This is it! The pièce de résistance and Gaston’s Tavern’s claim to fame. Lefou’s brew! This delicious drink is ordered more than anything else on the menu and has become synonymous with the best beverage in Fantasyland!
Lefou’s brew is made from frozen apple juice mixed with hints of toasted marshmallow. To top it all off, the brew is completed with a generous topping of passion fruit-mango foam. If you haven’t visited the restaurant before, we would recommend ordering this drink (along with a few cinnamon rolls) in a souvenir stein. It adds a lot more magic to the experience!
Other nibbles
During events and the holiday season, you can often find unique snacks at Gaston’s Tavern. Previously, the snack shop offered a delicious chocolate croissant, a tasty pork shank, and much more. So keep your eye out for any interesting additions they may have!
As part of Disney’s 50th celebration, Gaston’s also offers a Donald Duck dome cake. The dessert is made with a citrus-flavored cake on the bottom, topped with buttercream and lemon mousse with a blueberry filling. The cake is also encased in a blue and yellow Donald-themed dome.
