Is there anything more exciting than visiting the ‘happiest place on earth’? We didn’t think so! And it’s an extra-special occasion when you can plan a trip with the whole family. You’ve packed your bags (don’t forget your Dinsey ears!), and you’re on your way to the Magic Kingdom. But when you’re traveling with children, finding somewhere to eat can be tricky.
Of course, the parks are filled with novelty food items and sugary snacks, but where do you go when you’re winding down for the day? When you need a break from the hustle and bustle of the parks, the Liberty Tree Tavern is rated number one on our list of cozy, relaxing restaurants that is still magical enough to excite and entice the little ones.
Before you book your reservations, our quick guide will give you everything you need to know about our favorite food stop.
Liberty Tree Tavern’s History
Since the park opened, the Liberty Tree Tavern has been part of the Magic Kingdom Park in Liberty Square at Walt Disney World. Originally opened in 1971, the Tavern has become a staple for many park fans. But it wasn’t always the restaurant most of us know and love today.
In the 90s, Liberty Tree lost much of its popularity. As newer and more exciting dining spots opened up throughout Magic Kingdom, so the Tree Tavern had to adapt and change to keep guests coming through the doors.
That’s when the idea of character dining was born! Guests could sit down and enjoy lunch or dinner while surrounded by some of their favorite Disney pals like Donald Duck, Chip, Dale, and the man (or mouse) of the hour: Mickey! The Tavern also transformed its interior to the stately colonial-style inn we all know and love today.
Sadly, Liberty Tree Tavern no longer offers character dining during their meal services. But it’s still one of the best places to go for a great meal and exceptional service.
So whether you’re a returning guest visiting the eatery for nostalgia or a first-time parkgoer looking for an exciting eating experience, Liberty Tree is a fantastic choice.
Liberty Tree Tavern theme
You can’t think about Liberty Tree Tavern without getting lost in thought over its incredible themed dining rooms! The entire restaurant’s theme takes inspiration from 18th-century colonial inns and cabins. And boy, do they get it right!
The eatery pays homage to America’s rich and deep-rooted history with candelabra chandeliers fitted with imitation candles and a wooden interior. And with servers dressed in full colonial getups, it’s hard not to become immersed in the magic of Liberty Tree.
The Tree Tavern is perhaps better known for its six themed dining rooms, which are decorated from floor to ceiling with decor related to different historical figures.
These dining rooms are dedicated to America’s founding fathers, like Benjamin Franklin, George Washington, and Thomas Jefferson. Others include the Paul Revere, Betsy Ross, and John Paul Jones dining areas. Our favorite area to enjoy is the Benjamin Franklin dining room, complete with his portrait and an iconic kite replica!
With different furnishings in each room, you can visit and re-visit the Liberty Tree Tavern with your family and enjoy a unique experience every time! So the next time you’re planning to be in Liberty Square, be sure to include reservations for the Tavern in your itinerary!

Their food is hearty and served family style, so even the fussiest of eaters can find something to nibble on.
No matter which of the menu items you choose, you’re guaranteed good food and an even better atmosphere. It’s important to remember that while some beverages are included in the price of the meal, others may cost extra. This is true for both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.
The All-You-Care-To-Enjoy Bill of Fare
The starter for this meal is the Declaration salad, which includes tossed greens with a delectable dressing. But the main course is where the Tavern shines!
The main course, known as the Patriot’s Platter, includes a roasted turkey, oven-roasted pork, mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese, herb stuffing, pot roast, and oven-roasted seasonal vegetables. To top it all off, the food comes with a homemade gravy that is good enough to add to anything!
When you’re done, you can enjoy the Ooey Gooey toffee cake, which is by far their most popular dessert. The dessert includes a toffee cake topped with vanilla ice cream and chocolate sauce for a rich and decadent end to your meal.
But if you want something lighter, there is a range of other desserts to choose from. They include sorbet, Johnny Appleseed’s warm apple cake, or an allergy-friendly cookie.
The All-You-Care-To-Enjoy Plant-Based Tavern Keeper’s Feast
This vegetarian-friendly meal option is just as delicious as the standard Bill of Fare and includes the same starter of a Declaration salad. The main is switches out pot roast for Impossible Meatloaf, which is a plant-based meatloaf. The meatloaf is served with seasonal veggies, mashed potatoes, and a mouth-watering mushroom gravy.
The dessert recommended for this meal is Johnny Appleseed’s warm apple cake, but guests can choose any dessert from the menu to keep them feeling satisfied.
The All-You-Care-To-Enjoy Allergy-Friendly Bill of Fare
This allergy-friendly meal includes everything on the above menus but is prepared without allergens. They cater to most allergies by eliminating soy, gluten, milk, nuts, and much more. So if your table has special dietary requirements, Liberty Tree Tavern has got you covered.
The allergy-friendly meal is also served family style and offers the same dessert options to guests.
